Strep Throat Bronchitus

Put a cat in your library.

This is Ron, my mute and loyal companion of readings, inscrutable, mystic, friendly and grateful. When I take a book and sit on my couch spend time reading usually accompanies me as if trying to guess what I transmitted the volume I have in my hands. Generally, their calmer moments purrs accompany the books.

In general the relationship of cats with humans or has followers or has detractors, who will be sympathetic welcome this picture or who would be upset. Today I intend with these first lines in this new blog, giving a small tribute to the cats in their relationship to the world of books.

The origin of man's relationship with the cat is old. The latest data show that Cyprus lived with men 9500 years ago. Although according to the writer Antonio Burgos Sevilla, the cat may find the man and not vice versa. Egypt is the oldest civilization in which the cat had greater role, as demonstrated both by the hundreds of mummies of cats found, for the countless representations of the hieratic goddess Bastet, whose mission was to protect the home and symbolizes the joy of living, it is considered the god of harmony and happiness. This goddess is the personification of the warm rays of the sun and exercised to those who worshiped its beneficial powers.

imagine the library of Alexandria in defense populated by cats conservation of valuable rolls away to the dangerous rodents that could wipe out their precious shelf. Perhaps it was the beginning of the warm relationship of cats and books.

If Egypt was its golden age, the Middle Ages led to its black period, suffered the horrors of the millennium. From the twelfth century they began to associate with paganism and witchcraft. There was a belief that demons brtujas and cats could become and vice versa. So much so that in 1233 Pope Gregory IX declared that heretics worshiped the devil in cat form, which resulted in his persecution for centuries. A little later, in the fourteenth century, they believed responsible for spreading the Black Death, so to be removed leading to the proliferation of rats that were real responsible for its spread.

civilization but later returned to the site they deserve and gradually regain its lost virtues. Especially in the literature celebrities surrounded by her cats, especially people related to culture.

Michel de Montaigne said: When I play with my cat, who knows if I used to hang out more than I love her?

literature
But perhaps the most famous poem is the poet's French Charles Baudelaire (1821-1867). LXVI is the poem, "Cats", from his book "The Flowers of Evil" (1857), which I reproduce here:

ardent lovers and austere scholars

worship alike, in season mature

home pride, strength and sweetness

of cats, so they settled, chilly.

Friends of the science and sensuality,

the horror of darkness and silence are guided;

the funeral
steeds of Erebus would,

if they could give his majesty the whip.

solitary sleep in a dream is immutable

stand behind Magical sparks quiet

and gold particles such as sand pleasant,

dimly their mystic eyes crash.

Lord Byron, who had a cat named Beppo as one of his characters says: - "The cat possesses beauty without vanity, strength without insolence, courage without ferocity, all the virtues of man without his vices. "

Another gatófilo, Jorge Luis Borges Borges lived with two cats and her beloved Odin Beppo. Here you have two of his poems:

TO A CAT

are not more silent
mirrors

no more furtive dawn adventure;

you in the moonlight , that panther

we catch sight of from afar.

For unfathomable work of a decree

divine, we looked in vain;

yours is the solitude, yours the secret.

Your haunch to the delinquent

touch of my hand. You have accepted,

from that eternity which is already forgotten,

love of the distrustful hand.

to another time. You own

a closed environment like a dream.

And Neruda wrote this beautiful ode to the cat

the great poet Pablo Neruda wrote this beautiful Ode to the Cat:

acquiring spots, grace, flight.

The cat

born completely finished,

walking alone and knowing what you want.

The man wants to be fish or fowl,

the snake would have wings,

the dog is a lost lion,

the engineer wants
a poet,

the poet tries to imitate the fly,

but the cat

and every cat is cat

from whiskers to tail,

from a rat living

from night to his golden eyes.

I do not.

I do not subscribe.

I do not know the cat.

Other gatófilos have been George Bernard Shaw, Mark Twain, Edgar Allan Poe, Lovecraft, Hernst Hemingway lived thirty-four cats in Havana, Sir Walter Scott, Isaac Newton, Jean Jacques Rousseau, Chateaubriand, the American writer Jack Kerouac, Aldous Huxley etc.

Today and Spain are also writers who love their cats, as the aforementioned Antonio Burgos and his two books I recommend " cats without borders "and" Allegations of cats. " It's very emotional work of Fernando Sanchez Drago Soseki about your cat, put her name in honor of the Japanese novelist Natsume Soseki, who wrote a satirical novel in which an anonymous cat is an observer and narrator of the society of his time.

bibliophile
But I must point out some good old work on cats, find the following:

"Prayer to persuade, which is less evil, suffering mice that have cats in our homes" by Damian Maroun and Rama. Madrid, 1779 by Joachim Ibarra. Be found in the library of Manuel Sanchez. 4 ° [2], III p., [1] bl., XXI p., [1] bl

This publication responds:

"Speech or letter satisfactory answer by Damian published by Maron and persuading Rama .... "By Martin Anselmo de Orive. Valencia, 1779 by Joseph Estevan and Cervera, S. oven Square Andrew. 4, 51 p.

Anselmo Olive Martin is the pseudonym of Marcos Antonio de Orellana and Damian Mason and Mariano alias Rama Madramany and Calatayud.

Finally I notice a strange statement Valencia entitled

"List of aerostatic experiences made Valencia in Valencia: by Stephen Joseph ... : Will be in the Libraries Minguet Joaquin ... and that of Francisco Navarro ... [sa] March 24, 1784. 7h. 4 º. This statement is given news of the first flight of a balloon in Valencia and how the passenger was just a cat and it says "After the cat was returned to the earth, was half com fingernails to escape from prison, satisfied with his Buel, and having been the first of its kind air travelers. " Centuries later emulated by the dog Laika on board the Soviet spacecraft Sputnik 2.
